Heather Sharo
Toddler Head Teacher
After graduating from Rider University, I was introduced to Montessori through a friend. The first time I observed a Montessori environment, I was struck by its peaceful home-like atmosphere, the children's deep concentration and their independent engagement with beautiful, hands-on materials. I knew immediately that I had found the perfect fit for my teaching career. As I began working in Montessori schools, I clearly saw the difference between traditional education and the Montessori philosophy. Acorn's glorious campus, friendly and collaborative staff, and high Montessori standards are what drew me to teach in Toddler House. Each day, as I observe children, I am filled with awe and wonder at their independence and incredible "absorbent mind". Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and our dog, long walks, cooking and baking, yoga, and reading. In addition to my personal interests, I'm grateful to be part of the faculty at West Side Montessori - Teacher Education Program - supporting future Montessori guides. A favorite Dr Montessori quote from The Absorbent Mind is "He does it with his hands, by experience, first in play and then through work. The hands are the instruments of man's intelligence." This is meaningful to me because I believe the learning that occurs through a child's hands is powerful.
